Advanced Acting Class by Aaron Metchik

La Perla Del Mar is hosting Advanced Acting Classes with professional Actor, Director and Producer Aaron Metchik on Sunday afternoons. Take your acting to the next level. Check our Calendar for class times.

It is Aaron's desire to create an advanced, professional caliber, acting class in the Central Coast where actors of all ages can come on a weekly basis to receive the same type of training and guidance that they would in a professional acting studio in Los Angeles.

Combining the techniques he has learned at top acting studios and through his professional experience, Aaron's class will cover advanced script breakdown techniques and methods for creating honesty and depth in any character. Students will keep their skills sharp by putting up a scene or monologue at least twice a month in class.

Whether you enroll for fun or to pursue acting as a profession, you will receive the tools and the guidance necessary to make more powerful choices in any scene and to create memorable performances full of depth and honesty.

For more information or to reserve a space in a Central Coast class, call (323) 488-9388 or email MetchikStudioInfo [at] S10Productions.com.

Aaron Metchik

Aaron Metchik has over 15 years of professional acting experience. He has played major roles in seven motion pictures and over fifteen television shows, opposite such notable stars as Sissy Spacek, Keanu Reeves, Lara Flynn Boyle, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tim Curry, Jim Belushi, and Rachel Leigh Cook.

Aaron has directed adult and child actors in both theater and film and has also coached professional actors privately, including central coast native mega-star, Zac Efron, before he landed his starring role in High School Musical.

Aaron grew up on the central coast before moving to Los Angeles and earning his B.A. at the UCLA Film School. After graduating, Aaron wrote the teenage sports screenplay "Slammin'" for Warner Bros. Studios, and in 2007, he directed the independent feature film "Ten Years Later" from a screenplay that he also wrote.

Aaron currently lives and works in Los Angeles where he studies acting at the world renowned Ivana Chubbuck Studios. (Mrs. Chubbuck is the private acting coach to Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Terrence Howard, Jake Gyllenhaal and many more of Hollywood's elite actors) Aaron studies with Ivana directly in her "Masters Class" every week.

Michael Peterson ruled the surf scene throughout the early to mid-1970s with his savage, groundbreaking surfing. An undiagnosed schizophrenic, Michael couldn’t handle the fame his surfing powers attracted, and he retreated into a world of hard drugs, fast cars and shadows. He eventually hit rock bottom after a car chase, which took 35 police cars to stop him.
Thirty years on, MP is still vitally interested in the sport and culture of surfing and is a fixture at most Queensland events, enjoying the action with his mother, Joan. He is rightly regarded as an iconic figure in Australian surfing, and Hoff’s film, while it pulls no punches, is an intensely moving tribute to the man.

‘The story of Michael Peterson makes Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas look like Alice In Wonderland. ′ -- Sean Doherty

Surfer Magazine has nominated Michael as the #16 all-time greatest surfer in the world
Adding a special touch to the U.S. tour is Australian singer/songwriter Beau Young (2 x world champion surfer) in concert. Beau retired from professional surfing in 2003 to focus on a fulltime career in music. He has gone on to record 2 albums and performed at many of Australia’s most respected music festivals and toured through Japan & Europe. Beau has an obvious affinity with the film and story of Michael Peterson, being the son of one of the worlds most recognised and famous surfers (and MP’s predecessor), Nat Young. This will be Beau’s first official U.S. tour.

SLO Film Festival

March is just around the corner and so is one of the BEST EVENTS of the year...the 15th Annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival! This is your chance to see literally over a hundred films from around the world that you might not see anywhere else, and that's not all! You'll get a chance to meet the filmmakers and actors face-to-face and hear stories about the making of the films...just like the Behind-the-scenes stuff on a DVD, but much better!

With ten days of exciting movies, workshops, parties and events happening all over SLO County, the best way to participate is to buy a pass. Three different passes are available, from the very affordable Movie Fanatic 6-film pass to the all-access Movie Mogul pass - they are all available for purchase online now at www.slofilmfest.org. Passes will get you in to screenings before single ticket buyers, helping avoid the disappointment of being turned away at a sold-out screening.

Oct 9, 10 - One Winter Story

Award-winning documentary, One Winter Story, will be showing at La Perla Del Mar on October 9th and 10th. Filmmakers and subject of film will be present for Q&A. Benefits SLO Women's Shelter.

One Winter Story is an hour-long documentary that explores the life of big-wave surf pioneer and Ph.D scientist, Sarah Gerhardt, a relative unknown who made surfing history in 1999 as the first woman to surf Maverick's, the giant wave in Northern California. Using a montage of film and voice, "One Winter Story" traces Sarah's dramatic journey from poverty and despair to faith and forgiveness as she struggles to find her place both in the line up, and in the world.

Sarah grew up in the San Luis Obispo area, learned to surf there, and was so inspired by a local chemistry teacher that she decided to pursue the subject at Cal Poly, studying physical chemistry, and eventually attaining a doctoral degree in Santa Cruz.
